With the war in Ukraine, the whole European architecture is at stake. The quest for a European peace order, including Russia, may be replaced by new challenges that could turn the clock backward to the old times of Cold War logics and might also affect globalization and international cooperation. This lecture will firstly describe the history of European integration and its development toward the European Union in the 1990’s and will then analyse the problems which Europe and the EU are facing, both internally and externally, under the new circumstances today.
